If you, or someone you know has been involved in a MVA

If you or someone you know has recently been involved in a motor vehicle accident, it’s important to take prompt action. First, notify your insurance provider about any injuries and vehicle damage.

As a claimant, you have the right to choose your preferred physiotherapy clinic — even if your insurance company recommends a specific provider.

Keep in mind that symptoms may take days or even weeks to appear. To ensure timely recovery and proper documentation, we recommend scheduling an assessment with a physiotherapist as soon as possible. Early intervention helps prevent minor issues from developing into long-term complications.

In most cases, you are automatically eligible for up to $3,500 in rehabilitation coverage under MVA insurance.

At Urban Wellness Clinic, we offer specialized orthopaedic and neurological rehabilitation for a wide range of car accident injuries. Whether you're covered through MVA insurance, extended health benefits, or self-paying, our team is committed to delivering expert care tailored to your needs.

What is MVA?

A motor vehicle accident is an incident where the main cause of injury is the legal use or operation of a motor vehicle. Apart from the average vehicle-to-vehicle/person incidents, this includes, but is not limited to; getting hurt while filling gas in the vehicle, scraping off ice or attaching a trailer to the vehicle.

When basic requirements are fulfilled, you are most likely eligible for assistance under the Accident Benefits portion of your Ontario Automobile Insurance Policy.

Am I Still Eligible for Treatment If the Accident Was My Fault?

Yes — you are still eligible for rehabilitation support, even if you were at fault or involved in a single-vehicle accident. However, please note that coverage may be affected if the incident involved a criminal offense. In such cases, it’s advisable to consult with a legal professional to understand your entitlements fully.

Whose policy do I go through?

Which Insurance Policy Should I Use After a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA)?

If your accident occurred while driving a work vehicle, connect with your employer to determine if it falls under WorkSafeBC. For accidents involving your personal vehicle, you should immediately report the incident to ICBC either online or by phone.

If you were a passenger, cyclist, or pedestrian, and have an active ICBC policy, your claim should be submitted through your own insurance. If you do not have insurance, you may still be eligible to file a claim through the policy of the driver or vehicle involved in the accident.

In situations where you’re unable to obtain insurance details from the at-fault party, contact the local police for a copy of the Accident Report, which will contain the necessary insurance information.

For students, minors, or dependents, a claim can typically be made through a parent’s or guardian’s ICBC policy. In cases involving uninsured drivers or hit-and-runs, ICBC may still provide coverage under their uninsured motorist protection.
